| One of Us
Teachers are faced daily with the challenge of creating a classroom environment that supports and nurtures all learners, regardless of their abilities. It is not an easy task and a teacher’s job becomes even more demanding when their class includes a child with special needs.

Whether it is a mild learning disability, a physical disability, or a more severe developmental delay, the successful integration of individuals with special needs rests in the creation of a climate of acceptance and inclusion. |
“One of Us”, a sensitization program for students of early elementary school, was created specifically with the goal of helping teachers and children alike foster a climate of acceptance and inclusion. Designed as a hands- on, experiential project, the program sensitizes students, teachers and parents to the day to day issues faced by individuals with special needs.
The program includes interactive activities that teach the children about internal and external disabilities, a session on personal differences and “uniqueness” and many opportunities for the children to ask questions and share their own personal stories.
