About Yaldei School

Yaldei School is a private school of public interest, recognized and subsidized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. We welcome students aged 4 to 16 with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders with intellectual difficulties. These students may have related physical disabilities or not. Instruction is offered only in English.

We offer free professional services in the classroom. We offer specialized classes for children with autism with an approach to learning based on the principles of TEACCH and the ABA structure

Admission Requirements

Mandatory application for registration. Admission is reserved for students with disabilities who have an individualized intervention plan that meets significant needs for additional services with regard to:

  1. There is a process to follow to make a request. 

  2. Admission is reserved for students who meet the criteria below:  

  • Child with moderate to severe intellectual disability

  • Child with severe intellectual disability

  • Child with autism spectrum disorder with intellectual disability.

Curriculum

Three distinct programs of study are offered at Yaldei School: the Social Participation Skills Educational Program (CAPS), an educational program for students with profound intellectual disabilities, and the Standard Quebec School Training Program adapted or modified to meet the needs of the student. 

Our school offers a ratio of one student to three educators in each classroom. Each special education teacher is assisted by at least two qualified teaching assistants. 

We have an interdisciplinary team of therapists who offer complementary professional services. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, music therapy and art therapy sessions take place weekly in each classroom. Individual therapy sessions are offered at the request of the therapists or the school administration.

Course Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Classes are held according to a schedule, as established by the Ministry, which is in accordance with the Ministry's regulations. Students are entitled to a snack break, a lunch break, two recesses, a free play period, structured activities, as well as periods of individual work. We emphasize pedagogy, communication and social interaction, safety and the development of independent living skills. Each student begins the school year with an Individualized Education Plan that is reassessed with parents and professionals three times a year. Specific classroom and therapy goals are established for each student, who work on them daily.
